Psychedelic Education & Harm Reduction

At Ravenna Center for Neuropsychiatry, we recognize that interest in psychedelic therapies is growing—driven by emerging research, media coverage, and personal experiences shared within communities.

Many patients have questions, curiosity, or past experiences they want to understand through a mental health lens. Our role is educational and supportive, grounded in safety, ethics, and respect for the current legal landscape.

As a physician-led clinic, our commitment is to safety, compassion, and integrity. We meet patients where they are, offer clear-eyed education, and help them navigate complex questions with care and respect.

Why We Offer Psychedelic Education

Patients deserve accurate, balanced information—especially when navigating complex and evolving areas of mental health care. We provide nonjudgmental education to help patients understand:

  • The current state of scientific research

  • Potential psychological risks and benefits

  • Known contraindications and mental health considerations

  • The importance of preparation, screening, and integration

This service may be helpful for those who:

  • Are curious about psychedelic research and want reliable information

  • Have had past psychedelic experiences and want support processing them

  • Want to understand whether emerging treatments may or may not be appropriate for them in the future

Education empowers patients to make informed decisions and reduces the risk of harm.

Our Harm Reduction Approach

Harm reduction is a well-established public health principle. It acknowledges that people may explore experiences outside traditional medical settings and seeks to minimize potential risks rather than ignore them. This approach prioritizes patient safety, psychological stability, and long-term wellbeing.

Our harm reduction work focuses on:

  • Mental health and physical health screening and risk awareness

  • Identifying situations where psychedelic use may be unsafe

  • Supporting preparation for a planned experience

  • Supporting emotional processing and integration of past experiences

  • Encouraging thoughtful, cautious, and informed decision-making

What We Do - and What We Don't Do

We believe transparency is essential.

We do:

  • Provide education and consultation

  • Discuss medical and psychiatric risks and contraindications

  • Support patients in integrating past experiences

  • Offer evidence-based perspectives

  • Initiate referrals to clinical trials, when indicated

We do not:

  • Provide, prescribe, or facilitate access to psychedelic substances outside of clinical trials or legal, state-run centers

  • Offer instructions on use, dosing, or acquisition

  • Encourage or promote illegal activity

Our services are strictly educational and supportive in nature.
