Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

TMS should never feel industrial. At Ravenna Center for Neuropsychiatry, it doesn’t.

What is Deep TMS?

Deep TMS is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific brain circuits involved in mood, motivation, and emotional regulation. It is often considered when medication or therapy alone has not provided sufficient relief — or when patients prefer a non-systemic alternative.

We utilize the BrainsWay Deep TMS System as a therapeutic tool. Its H-coil design allows magnetic stimulation to reach deeper brain regions than standard TMS approaches.

But the device does not determine the care.

Your treatment parameters are thoughtfully selected, monitored, and adjusted by experienced clinicians. Progress is reviewed frequently. Subtle shifts in symptoms matter. Your feedback guides us. If adjustments are needed, they are made carefully and intentionally.

At our clinic, TMS is not delivered through a preset protocol or automated algorithm. It's part of a carefully individualized treatment plan designed around you.

Before treatment begins, every patient undergoes a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. We take time to understand:

  • Your diagnosis — and how it presents uniquely in you

  • Your prior treatment history

  • Your medical history

  • Your temperament and stress patterns

  • Current life circumstances

  • What meaningful improvement would look like in your daily life

We are not simply treating symptoms. We are treating a person.

Our Treatment Philosophy

Throughout the process, you are seen — not processed.

Deep TMS is a powerful tool. But its effectiveness depends on clinical judgment, ongoing assessment, and a therapeutic relationship built on trust. You are not placed into a preset pathway. You are not handed off to a machine. You are not reduced to a diagnosis code.

Our role is to combine neuroscience with careful psychiatric care — applying the technology precisely, while staying attuned to the human being sitting in front of us.

What Conditions Can be Treated with TMS?

Deep TMS is FDA-cleared for:

  • Major Depressive Disorder (including treatment-resistant depression)

  • Anxious Depression

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

  • Nicotine dependence

Ongoing research continues to explore additional psychiatric and neurological applications. Whether TMS is appropriate for you depends on a thorough clinical assessment, not just a diagnosis.

What Does TMS Treatment Feels Like?

  • Sessions take place in a calm, private room designed for comfort and focus.

  • You remain awake and alert.

  • There is no anesthesia, no sedation, and no recovery period.

  • A typical course involves: 20–30 minute sessions, Five days per week, Several weeks of structured treatment

  • Some patients experience mild scalp discomfort or headache early in treatment, which typically improves quickly.

Is Deep TMS Right for You?

You may consider TMS if:

  • Medications have not provided adequate relief

  • Side effects have limited treatment options

  • You are seeking a non-invasive, drug-free approach

The first step is a thoughtful consultation to determine whether this treatment aligns with your needs and goals. If it does, we move forward deliberately — together.
